Hall of mirrors

This blog is a mixture of our travel adventures and our new family adventures.
The title comes from a dumb blonde high school girl on a tour with us in Versailles who asked this question in every single room of the Palace.
The picture was taken while on our Honeymoon in China, on the Xian river.

I'm 1 Month Old!

So yesterday, for Ares' one month birthday, my mother and I took Ares to his first Indians game! My father had won the tickets in a raffle, and since it was a noon game, he wasn't able to attend during work, so the three of us got to go! While on Friday the temperatures got into the mid 80's, Thursday wasn't quite as warm, in fact, it was down right cold. I dressed him all cutsie, but it was 49 degrees at gametime. The Tribe won though, 5-2 vs Kansas City, so little Ares is good luck! He was a trooper and lasted the entire game, although about 5th inning, we moved to seats that were in the sun. It was Adam's idea to buy a mini baseball bat and write the date and score on it for future reference, and I did just that... didn't have to convince me twice to buy Ares something, I love to spend money on him!

Today was much nicer, in fact, it reached the mid 80's! In April! YAY! We were outside the entire day. He got sunburned on the TINY part of his face that you can see yesterday, so today we kept him in his stroller or carrier so that we could have the umbrella part up. We washed 2 of our vehicles, adam washed his bicycles, we went for a walk, sat outside, went to the driving range, went to my softball practice and finally went out to dinner at Damons. We got to see Justice's girlfriend, and later Justice showed up. He was dressed cute all day, and kept it dry the entire time!

Finally, here are a few videos to show our little guy. LOVE HIM! Not sure if everyone will be able to view the video, either way, if you could PLEASE leave a comment on the blog to let me know if you can view the video, I'd appreciate it. This way I would know if I should put more up or not. Thanks! -Athena

My In-Laws Have Created a Monster

The picture to the right is how our weekend at Grandma's started. Adam and I collectively managed to lock our keys in the car at Burger King in Belleville with the dog in it. A little frustrating, but it only pushed back our travel time by about 40 minutes. We ate outside waiting for the tow truck, and the baby needed changed twice, so we would have ended up needing to stop anyhow.
We got to the Miller's around 11:15 pm, which is after what Adam had predicted, but was dead on to when I anticipated arriving. It was a nice weekend, with lots of visitors. Ares got to meet his Great Grandpa Bill for the first time. They spent a lot of time together, especially Saturday night and Sunday morning. Great Grandma and Papa came up from Corydon to visit again, and the Hottingers came over, along with little Evie.
The monster part comes in when Ares was held the entire time we were down there. My father in law even proved himself to be very versatile and ate all of his meals with only one hand. Now, he wants to be held all of the time. I guess we should get used to Grandma and Grandpa spoiling the baby, because that's what they do. The biggest reason Ares is a monster (at least these past 3 days) is his pacifier. He insists on sucking on his binkie every minute of the day. I've been trying to ween him already, but if it's not in, he's sobbing. Even when he's close to falling asleep, it will fall out of his mouth, and then he's wide awake crying historically. His face turns all red and it seems like he forgets to breathe properly. Ugh, I've created a monster!
The drive home was far more uneventful (thank goodness). I took late Sunday night to prepare for my interviews that I had on Monday morning/afternoon. I think those went fairly well, although I won't be sure until the end of this week or early next week. Ares did everything possible to be late for the interviews (which were to be done over the phone from my mother's house). He soaked through two diapers (and subsequently two outfits) which made me have to restock his diaper bag, spit up all over me, cry non stop in the car, drink his bottle slowly (which made me push off pumping until later) which means I arrived at my moms only 15 minutes before I got the call. I hope to have good news soon, she did ask me when I come back from leave.

Road Trip!

Today we leave for Grandma's (and Grandpa's)! YAY! In Cincinnati. We are excited for our first road trip. (OK, so no one is excited about the actual trip down). Ares isn't old enough to know anything, and I feel as if we need a moving truck to get everything down there - and we're not even bringing a swing or a bouncer or anything! I am willing to bet that there will be a ton of stuff down there already, but for our first time down there, I want to make sure that we have everything we need, and I'm sure we'll forget things anyway.
We are excited to see everyone. We'll miss Auntie Leah, but grandma and grandpa, and grandma and papa will all be down there to see us.
This week was pretty good on the home front. Ares slept for 6 hours Monday night, 6.5 hours on Tuesday night, and over 7 hours on Wednesday night! Last night we weren't so lucky, but man, the three nights in a row was soo nice to have!
I have been pretty bad at taking pictures these past few days as we haven't done anything spectacular. We visited daddy at work yesterday, although, daddy never got to see Ares because his coworkers whisked him off and walked around with him. I will have lots of pictures after this weekend though, everyone will be amazed at how big Ares has gotten recently! He's out of Carter newborn sizes already, (although other newborns fit him for the most part). Thanks to Lisa who warned me that Carter sizes run small, he's starting to wear the 0-3's now!

Hoppy Easter!

Whenever one plans something, it never turns out that way. For example, never plan to use an infant as an alarm clock. If you plan on being somewhere early, using an infant as an alarm clock isn't the best thing to do, especially when your infant can possibly sleep for 5 hours straight and not wake up until 9am (!!). It was great to have a long time to sleep, but we were rushing in the morning. A few reasons why our son is so great...
First thing - he didn't wake up crying, he was just laying in his crib looking around his room when I walked in to get him. What a great little guy!
Second thing - bath time.. this time, not a peep out of him, he was so happy about sleeping for so long and then being fed, that he was just as content as can be during his entire bath. No crying what-so-ever. We even washed his hair and everything!
Third thing - he didn't wet/mess through ANY of his clothes today!
Fourth thing - (and one of the most important) - he is so cute!

He had two outfits today, not because he wet through the first one, just because we had a comfortable little "Baby's First Easter" outfit which includes the Easter bunny hat with ears and the Easter bunny footsies, and secondly, well, you'[ll see in the pictures, how could I not have changed him into this?!?

Dry Season

So it is Spring here in Cleveland, and it certainly is NOT the dry season outside, however, Ares has managed to not need an outfit change for about 24 hours. Only one outfit change in the past 40 hours. YAY! He's growing too! He went to his first bar last night. We were at BW-3's. I'm pretty sure he won't remember it, other than getting a bottle and a diaper change, he slept through the entire Cav's game. Geeze! Be ready for some adorable Easter pictures tomorrow!

Most Beautiful Bride

It seems wherever I go, there's something to remind me/us about the excellent trip that we missed in December. It'll be something that I regret probably for the rest of my life. I know all of you are happy we didn't go, but knowing that nothing happened in the days after the attacks of Mumbai, I really REALLY wish that we had gone. Of course, 20/20 hindsight... I know. Anyhow, I just had to post some pictures from the wedding. Isn't Dia absolutely beautiful?! ? I seriously could have posted like, 40 pictures that I liked, it was so hard picking just these ones to post! Anyhow, here are a few pictures from Dia and Dev's wedding on December 13, 2008.

Splish Spash

Last night Ares had his first real bath. We first put him in the warm water, and he really liked it (!!)... for about two minutes. I think he was shocked at first. He just laid there for the two minutes looking around the bathroom and looking at us, then, when daddy started to wash his hair, he decided he didn't like the water so much.

Daddy did a great job though, he was all nice and clean, and wrapped up in one of his new towels. I kept him like that, nice and warm, and fed him his food, where he showed us his thanks by spitting up all over himself, down his belly to his thighs, around the back of his neck, pretty much everywhere. It's unfortunate that he was so nice and clean and smelled great turned to sour milk, but at least I didn't have to change another outfit!

Early yesterday my mom and I went to the Twinsburg Fitness Center to walk around the track some. We decided to do the same thing today. It was nice, we did a mile, and then I attempted to do my crunches. I did them, but man, my ab muscles are WEAK! Then we went to visit Justice at Mavis Winkles for lunch. We did really well, a veggie tray as an appetizer, each of us had a half Turkey sandwich and a salad. Eating well for lunch and walking at the gym, we decided that we should split a Rocky Road Brownie Sunday. YUM! We then proceeded to go to Babies 'R' Us and spend way too much money. I did find some of the cutest outfits on sale! Ares has been eating a ton and sleeping LOTS, and some said that we were going to see a growth spurt. I didn't believe them, but I guess everyone knows better than I. Today, two of his size newborn outfits are short on him. He can't completely stretch his legs out (not that he ever does). Luckily, everything I bought for Ares today I had giftcards to pay for. (Unfortunately, the clothes I bought for him yesterday at Burlington I had to pay cash.) Ah well, I hope to have a clean, dry, adorable looking kid when he starts daycare.

I'm growing!

"I" as in Ares. He has broken the 7lb mark. 7lbs 1 oz. He's our "bigguy" now! Ballpark is getting frustrated with Ares a little bit because he won't throw his toys. Ballpark loves to share his toys with Ares by putting them on his lap when he's in his bouncer chair or in his carrier. Ares just sits there and stares at the dog, and Ballpark keeps nudging his toys closer to Ares' hands hoping he'll play. It's so freakin' adorable!

Today is Adam's birthday! The big 3-oh +1. lol. He had gotten my gift over the weekend, but he got his gift from Ares today. Ares bought him a tool box filled with lots of bicycle tools. Ares even went to the store today to buy a card!

Other than Ares constanly spitting up ALL day today, no other news on the home front. I do have a new cute picture though!

Happy Birthday Adam!

Saturday Grandma and Papa came over and we had a really great visit with them. Later in the afternoon, Adam's great aunt Betty and Uncle Johnny (Ares' Great Great Aunt and Uncle) came in to town from Cinci as well. It was a lot of people to have in our little house, but the visit was enjoyable. We went to Brown Derby for dinner, it was the first time I had had steak in over 10 months, it was excellent. Ares was a good boy, except he left me a large present to change on the changing table in the women's bathroom. =)

After dinner, we celebrated Adam's birthday back at the house with his favorite food: Boston Cream Pie/Cake, brought by Grandma and Jim. He was very excited that he got to eat his favorite dessert. I gave him a part of his gift, a bike rack for tuning his bicycle. He got an awesome Man U. jersey from his parents that he loves.

Last night, Ares went to bed at 11:45. He woke up at 3:30 for a feeding and a changing, and then didn't wake up until 7:30 again. I always get up alone the first time Ares wakes up, and since today is Adam's first day back at work, it was a perfect night for Adam to sleep from midnight to 7:30. However, my goal for the day is to take a nap, and make dinner. =)

Our first restaurant

I was nervous about bringing a baby to a restaurant so young, so we decided to just do Pizza Hut. Well, the baby decided to sleep through most of the meal, (until I had to change his diaper, AND his outfit). It was very painless! Adam and I are VERY happy to say that Grandma and Jim (known as Papa now) made it up to Cleveland safely, and we are thrilled to death that we get to visit with them all weekend! Here's some early pics of the night:

I'm pretty sure that Ares is giving daddy the finger here because he took so many photos with the flash on. See for yourself.
