Hall of mirrors

This blog is a mixture of our travel adventures and our new family adventures.
The title comes from a dumb blonde high school girl on a tour with us in Versailles who asked this question in every single room of the Palace.
The picture was taken while on our Honeymoon in China, on the Xian river.

A few videos...

Ares had his 6 month appointment today. He weighs in at 17.5 lbs, 26.75" long. (Soon, we'll be measuring tall, as he now can stand while holding on to something. He is completely at 50% for everything, head, height, length, and height to weight ratio. My baby is perfect!

The doc was very impressed that he could sit up on his own. After watching him for about 15 minutes, she says he'll be crawling VERY soon. She said around 7 months he will be saying "dadada" and "bababa", but maybe he'll start that early too, because he's so vocal.

Unfortunately, he got 4 shots today. He was very irritable, although, you would never know from these videos, but this is about 2 minutes of the 2 hours of the day that he was happy.

6 Months has gone so fast!

I'm so bad for taking such a long time to post! It has been a crazy CRAZY week, and doesn't look to be getting any better.

Ares turned 6 months old last Wednesday. Ironically, Wed was the first day he slept 12 hours.... and Thursday, and Friday, and Saturday, and Sunday, last night he woke up once, but he refused to eat between 5:30 and bed time, so he was hungry, understandably. I was lucky, daddy got up with him, I slept =)
Most are on Facebook.

Ole Ole Ole Oleee

Baby in the wild, stalking his prey.
The baby has spotted me! Quick! Run before he charges!"My first SI photo shoot. How do you like this face?"
"Awww Maw... stop the silly faces, I'll smile already."
"These Cleveland Indians are boring. I'll just tip one back
until you're ready to go."

"How can you make me sit through 3 innings of this crap?
I can just strangle you mom! "

I worked so hard on this last night. I didn't realize how washed out Adam and Ares looked compared to the background. Not sure if I could change them, as I've already merged the two. Bummer. This was last weekend.

4 GB Ram!!

My laptop was 6 years old, and my photo programs kept crashing it, so I decided to use the $ my parents gave me for finishing grad school and bought a new computer. It's so fast, pretty and shiny!

Grass on the tush

Ares has pretty much taken to sitting on his own. If he gets really distracted, he'll fall over. Here, he had the grass to grab on to if he was about to topple. I officially think this is the best age. He's so much fun, full of smiles, a little predictable, and.... *drum roll* he's sleeping very well. *knock on wood*
As much as I hated the two nights of our version of crying it out, it has seemed to work. He goes to bed without incident now, either plays, or falls right to sleep. At first, he woke up crying once or twice at night, but put himself to sleep. Now, if he wakes up, he plays some, or, like last night, we didn't even hear him wake up at all. Granted, we might have slept through him screaming or playing, but I'm pretty good about waking up whenever he goes into his tantrums. 10 hours straight, bottle, then 2 more hours. You go baby! Please, keep this up!
Friday, I had the day off of work. I went to my parents (who weren't yet home from Italy) and finished putting the molding up in the basement. I measured, cut, hammered, (made the nails flush) painted and everything! Only 3 phone calls to Adam's work to ask questions, one of which was asking where more nails were. I rocked!
Saturday night my Aunt watched Ares while we went to Dia's wedding. We didn't know a single person there (well, other than the bride and groom) but we had a spectacular time. Of course, in the craziness of getting things together for Ares, we left our camera and the scarf/drape to the outfit I borrowed at home. I'm sure I looked like an idiot, but I had fun none-the-less. We had to leave early to pick up mom and dad from the airport, well, that, and the fact that momma things had to be taken care of... oops! Please, don't ask Adam how the food was, he will rave for hours, and then try to convince you that you need to drop everything and go to an Indian restaurant (note, we are not even sure where there is one around here). I actually enjoyed the food as well. For some reason, I was expecting spicy, but there was none of that.

Sliding closer to victory

The word "victory" is so far from the truth... hehe. Adam and I had another double header on Wednesday. We played much better this time (as a team) I think we even scored 10 runs one game! Adam, is still stunning people with how fast he is. He's got great instincts in the field, just doesn't have ALL of the fundamentals down. He gets some of the harder things right, but not the easy ones. When he finally uses two hands to catch a ball, and gets directly in front of the grounders, he's going to be one hell of a ball player.

I had a decent game in the field. Snagged a fast line drive by some big muscled guy when I played 3rd base, had a few ground outs. I went 4 for 5 and walked once. I even got a double.... that one was well earned. See above. I had gauze on it last night and this morning, but when I got to work, it had already soaked through and got my pants wet, ewwwww.

Ares is adorable, so much fun, the perfect age. He went to sleep right away for us at 7:30 today. I hope that continues. Someone in his day-care has the hand-foot and mouth disease. Ares hasn't been at day-care since last Friday though due to the Holiday. (He goes Mon, Thurs, Fri) so hopefully he missed the period when the kid was contagious. Today he read my book with me, he even helped me turn the pages (consequently ripping a few). My mom bought Ares a bouncy swing that attaches to a door frame. This is between their kitchen and morning room. He LOVES this swing so much.

Sorry, the above two pictures were taken with my mom's camera. She needs a new one. See mom, you need a new camera... I suggest Canon.

To sleep, or to Cry?

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Cassaundra was here the entire day to watch him. When Adam and I have him all day, he's irritable, when other people have him, he's good. I only worked 1/2 day at work, and worked the other half here in case Cassaundra needed help. I walked in, and she told me she couldn't believe how good he was. THEN, he took a 2 hour nap (I know!! My son!!) and was laughing a lot. She left, and instantly he started whining, lol.
We decided that he's only getting up twice a night out of habit, and doesn't really need to eat. If he didn't need to eat when he was 2 months old, he doesn't need to eat now. So we decided that we're going to let him cry himself to sleep. Wow, is that rough! I was reading that it's a 3 day process. When we put him down, he cried for an hour. The only reason he fell asleep was that we put his paci back in after that hour, and he was out immediately. (We're technically not supposed to do anything other than rub his back to help him sleep). At 1:00, he woke up again, and screamed for another hour. I was getting frustrated, and Adam slept through it all (not quite sure how, other than at the end, Ares started losing his voice, lol). I gave up and ended up giving him 1/2 a bottle. He held it on his own in his crib, and when I heard him finish it, I switched the bottle for the paci and he's been sleeping ever since.
Enjoy our pics of the beautiful extremely bright rainbow that went across our house. Honestly, these pictures don't do it justice. It was the brightest, most vibrant rainbow I'd ever seen!

You know it's a bad day when....

Feel free to add your own:
You know it's a bad day when your stain stick tip breaks at work. (because that means you have a stain on you). Grrr.
The weekend was pretty uneventful. We got to see Adam's family on Saturday because they came up to Cleveland =) Adam started feeling sick Saturday night, was a typical man on Sunday (sorry guys who read this) and did absolutely nothing in the afternoon. Sometimes acted as if he was going to die... he had a cold, lol At least Sunday he was more functional. Went to a last minute family picnic on the West side.
Ares is sick, yet again, I guess his antibiotics caused Thrush. Yay. at least two more weeks of medicine. On the plus side, I have some more cute pics of Ares, although, they're on my mom's camera, and I have to figure out how to upload them.

Last night was Adam's first softball game. We lost the first one like, 25-0 and the second one 30-1. There were a total of 3 hits in the first game and 1 walk. I got the walk to lead off the game, and Adam got a hit (nice solid hit). The second game, I went 2/2. I think there were 5 hits that game. I also scored our only run. Adam almost got on base his only at bat the second game, barely got thrown out. It was an infield hit to the pitcher, and no one could believe how fast he was. The other team called him an f*ing gazelle. lol!!

He played in the outfield the first game, and was excellent. I played third and did terribly. The sun was horrific and I hope we never play on that field again. Our team is awful, but it was still pretty fun.

Ares had Cassaundra watch him yesterday, Katie watch him today, and Cassaundra watched him tonight while we played ball. He has not slept through the night in almost 5 weeks... *sigh*. He is not really even taking naps either.

Ares fell asleep in the car at 9pm last night. We put him in his crib but kept him in his carrier. Little bugger slept until 3! This is a first in a while! 6 hours! Of course, then he was up every 1.5 hours, but still... it was nice to not have to get up a million times. He is so freakin' big now! Pretty sure he's already in 9 mo clothing for pants and shorts, and getting there for onesies!

What a Weekend!!

Ares got to spend all weekend with his Grandma and Grandpa (and Grandma and Papa) in Cinci this weekend while Adam role played at Doug's (in Cinci), and I went to Pittsburgh on Saturday. It was supposed to be a great weekend of relaxing and sleeping (very important), however, our little dog decided he was going to be VERY sick. I'm grateful for my parents who went on Saturday while I was gone to let him out (and clean up LOTS of ucky piles). I came home to more uck. At least I had a good time in Pittsburgh, I ended up sleeping on the love seat next to the sliding glass door and let the pup out every hour and a half that night. I think I would have rather been woken up every 2-3 hours with the baby. Adam also slept like crap his only night off because of a very dry house.

Ares seemed to have a good time. I think he went out to eat with lots of people for both dinner and breakfast. Sounds like he laughed a lot and he was in a great mood when he got home (until it was bed time *sigh*). Fortunately, the amoxacillin (sp?) is working wonders, and his nose is so much better. He's still waking up 3 or 4 times a night though. On the plus side, I think his reflux is gone! YAY!!!
