Hall of mirrors

This blog is a mixture of our travel adventures and our new family adventures.
The title comes from a dumb blonde high school girl on a tour with us in Versailles who asked this question in every single room of the Palace.
The picture was taken while on our Honeymoon in China, on the Xian river.

The Children's Museum (Cinci)

I only have a few pictures right now, but I hope to add some more soon. We all had a great time, it was just too bad we were only able to spend 3 hours there. He could have played for YEARS!

The invitation!!

So the date did change. The party is the 26th now. Now Grandma/Grandpa, Auntie Cindy/Uncle Mike and Grandma Jean/Papa can make the party. Unfortunately, by changing dates, I made things more difficult for my in-laws, but Adam and I offered to 'help' with report cards as much as we could.

I'm getting better at this GIMP thing. Although, I haven't created anything in GIMP since Ares' first Birthday, I decided to go this route again (Cheaper postage). I decided not to do a posed picture of Ares on the card. Anyone who knows Ares would expect a photo more like the one on the card.

... Hold that Thought

The date may be changed... Perhaps the 26th?

A date has been set! Ares turns 2!

For those out of towners wondering about Ares' 2nd birthday party. The date will be 3/19. The theme will be "monster trucks" because the kid is obsessed with cars (as I might have mentioned previously). Since he's getting a Jeep Power Wheel for his birthday, I thought the theme is appropriate. It'll be an afternoon party.

We had 60* weather here yesterday. I was busy from 7am-8:30pm, so I didn't get to enjoy it at all, (but I did get a car wash the day prior- which terrified Ares) but at least he got to enjoy the weather while at Grandma's house. He played with his lawnmower (anyone surprised?) and his sand shovel that he pushed piles of snow around with for hours.

Happy Valentines Day to all. Grandma & Papa, thanks for the card for Ares. He really enjoyed it (although, he likes to read them upside down). I took a few pictures, but my phone is outside, I'll have to load them later.

Afraid of the dark

Last night my mom told me that when Ares and grandpa were down in our basement, Ares told him he was afraid of the dark. Grandpa failed to tell me this, perhaps that's why he's not loving his new room. We'll add a night-light and see how that goes. He tells grandpa he's afraid of the dark, but not mommy. Sheesh.

A bad thing about having a kid that talks in near sentences is they start talking back. Already - not even two years old yet. Here's what I got yesterday... "No, mommy, cheeseburger pwease". (He was NOT given a cheeseburger, and promptly threw a fit.) Same thing with music. "Mommy, wayee (his way of pronouncing 'lady') gaga". The worst part of it all is that he's starting to know the words to the Lady Gaga songs. It's slightly funny to hear him sing a (correct) word here and there, I'm dreading the moment when we can no longer listen to her because the lyrics aren't the best. It's really the only thing that pacifies the kid in the car. I've got tickets to her concert and a) I feel bad for not getting him a ticket, he's definitely a bigger fan than I am, and b) I'm pretty much sick of her music as it's all I hear when I'm in the car with him. Good thing she has another cd coming out.
Another bad thing about him talking is that he always needs 'help' with something because it's 'heavy mommy, heavy'. Regardless of the weight of the object. It can by a 10lb weight, or it could be a feather. He always needs 'help pwease'.

Vintage Airplanes

"Go take that to your mommy" is the first thing I heard one Saturday morning. In comes Ares, carrying a poop ball - in his bare hand. Really!? Stupid dog. He has now, officially left a poop ball in every single room in our house. Which is a pretty big feat. Yay poop balls.

We have decided on a theme for Ares' birthday party. It's going to be monster trucks, because he loves cars, trucks, planes etc and will be getting a jeep power wheel for his birthday.

I've also decided on a theme for his 'big boy' bedroom. It's going to be vintage airplanes. I've found a cute bedding set I want to buy, Adam already has some nice framed airplane artwork (that is also red, white and navy), and there's some cute accessories that can be purchased to match the room. Really, anything airplane he'd be happy with. Plus, grandpa works for an Aerospace company, and could probably bring some model planes home =).

He'll have a full sized bed, and I thought this could grow with him a little bit. I decided against putting the toddler bed together, as that means I'd have to buy another bed set, and I'm not going to put the money into that. So when he's ready for a big boy bed, here's what he's getting.

"Bubble Bath"

This is not me in the tub, I just found this picture online, poor girl, but this is kind of what the tub looks like .
So Ares needed a bath last night, and he insisted on a bubble bath. (As soon as you ask him if he wants a bath, he runs to the bathroom and yells bubble bath, bubble bath, bubbles!!) I wanted to take a nice soak myself, so I decided we'll do it in my nice new bathtub! We got in, I threw about 6 or 7 cap-fulls of bubbles in (I know the directions say 2, but the bathtub is HUGE), and we were off. Ares kept saying 'more bubbles mommy - peeeease', so I decided to turn on the jets in the tub to see if it would do anything. WHOA!!! Did we get some bubbles?!?! We had about 1.5 FEET of bubbles on top of the water. Daddy walks in and sees us splashing, so he decides to join us. (There's a large step inside the tub in the back, so Ares can sit down without the water being too high while we were sitting in the main part of the tub). Amazing! I swear this house was awesome, but really, I could have put this tub inside the old house and have been happy. It was like family time in the pool. (but with more childrens' bath toys, that kept getting lost in the bubbles).

We probably could have spent hours in there - except, after 15 or 20 minutes, Ares got that look on his face that says either "oops, i pooped" or "I'm going to poop soon", so panic swept in, and everyone rushed out to get him to the potty pronto. It was a false alarm, but the bath was short lived. It's OK though, life is great. If only we can get him to go to bed easily, and then stay asleep all night. He's not used to his room yet =(

Color Patterns

Ares LOVES 'Team Umizoomi'. I'm not sure where he first saw it, but it's the ONLY show that will keep his attention, which has been a Godsend while we're moving.

So there are always shapes, colors and patterns. Today, the pattern was green, yellow, yellow. green, yellow, yellow. so ares is watching them say green yellow yellow three times, and then the cartoon says green yellow ____ and Ares yells "black!!". Guess we need to work on patterns a little better =)

What a week!

Monday - we got the garage code to the house! We moved nearly all of the boxes that I had previously packed up. Ares stayed overnight at Auntie Cindy's house.
Tuesday - The entire garage was emptied of the old house and moved to the new one. Ares stayed overnight again at Auntie Cindy's house.
Wednesday - Aunt Diane / Uncle Terry brought dinner over, and helped me organize the new kitchen (Uncle Terry moved some outlets for us). Adam attempted to shovel a small part of our driveway. He got about 10', plus our walkway and was exhausted and sore. I guess 11" of snow, ice and a topping of snow will do that to you. Ares didn't go to bed until 9:30, but was pretty much amazing - playing by himself while we worked.
Thursday - the plan is to completely pack our old house and move as much furniture to the main floor as possible. Will actually attempt to make my own dinner (Mac'n'Cheese) tonight - from the blue box.
Friday - Day off! Move day!
