Hall of mirrors

This blog is a mixture of our travel adventures and our new family adventures.
The title comes from a dumb blonde high school girl on a tour with us in Versailles who asked this question in every single room of the Palace.
The picture was taken while on our Honeymoon in China, on the Xian river.

New Look

OK, so I changed the look because the blog was starting to look a little plain.  I'm not sure if I like this or not, my title is gone.  We'll see how long this lasts.

Less Pain, More Hustle

Week 3 of T-ball this week, was not nearly as bad as it was the first week.  In fact, this week, it was FABULOUS!  (Well, aside from Ares and I having to walk 1/2 mile to the field, me, carrying a cooler with capri suns for the team, ice, and two chairs)  We finally got close to the field, and Ares had to go potty, so off we went, another 50 yards to the porto-pots.  I was exhausted and didn't want to do anything aside from sit in the chair and watch him.  And that. I. Did!

He listened to everything the coaches said, he hit the ball VERY well.  He ran to all of the bases when he was supposed to.  He hustled in the field.  When I say Hustle, I mean it!  He ran after every single ball, and probably got half of them (there were 11 kids on the field). He'd run, dive, roll, slide, whatever it took to get the ball (no one got hurt) and even better. No.One.CRIED!  If he didn't get the ball, he'd run right back into place to get the next one.  He did leave the game learning a new phrase:
"There's no tackling in baseball."

Fabulous News!

We won our softball game!  This is a big deal, as we lost badly last week, and the team we had a few years ago lost badly nearly every week.  It was a great game, and fun too!  There was about 3" of powder on the field which messed up the other team (losing balls as they caught them) but not our team.  And. I. Played. Awesome!
Awesome to the point that I was told I'm always playing third base and can never sit the bench.  I caught pop flies, I caught grounders, I turned a double play, I hit strongly.  I think the guys here in the office are impressed, and it makes me smile =)

Happy Thursday everyone.

More Color Run

I've been bad, I haven't uploaded any photos from the run from the camera yet.  But, I just got this picture emailed to me from my coworker.  His girlfriend's mom was the organizer, and we happened to see them three times during the event (odd, seeing as there were, like, 15,000 people there - I didn't see any of the other 20+ people I knew going).  Afterwards, they took a picture of Ares with a (clean) real camera.   Enjoy!  I certainly have!

Our Government is Dumb

So, the IRS is requesting information for our Taxes.  I get everything together, put it in the nice envelope that they provided and checked to see that everything is right.  So, on the return letter I need to send in, the stupid government put my address in the spot that shows through the clear plastic box on the envelope.  Really? Am I just sending this to myself?  Is this the way you think the post office will redeem itself?  To have people send themselves mail?   Good job, well, it didn't work, I caught it first.  Stupid people.

(And, there's a branch of the IRS that shares our small building with us *sigh*.)

The Color Run!

A sneak peak of the most fun 5K I've ever run!   Adam pushed Ares while we ran.  After the race, everyone had their own color packets to throw. (Ares had mine. - I think he had the BEST time ever!)
It took a long shower and help to scrub all of the color off.  WELL worth it though!

Eeeks MIA

Sorry I've been MIA recently, I am completely and utterly overwhelmed with my job.  The lack of training here is ridiculous, and it's completely catching up with me.  Last week one day I started at 6am and  left late and then the next day started at my normal time and didn't leave the office until 9:30pm.   Maybe I'll get an ulcer and lose some weight, or maybe not, but I HAVE learned, that I need to bring a lunch that doesn't need microwaved, refrigerated or hot water, because I just won't eat if it requires me to get up from my desk.

Hopefully things can get back to normal after next week, but I doubt it.

A Note To My Son

STOP PICKING YOUR FOREHEAD!!

When you're 16 years old, and all worried about your appearance to get dates, you're going to complain to me about the giant scar you have smack dab in the center of your forehead.  I'd like to make it known, it was the size of two pin pricks to begin with.  But you pick and pick, at night, when no one is looking.  I took the band-aid off when it was nothing more than a scar (a scar, not a scab) and somehow, you picked the scar and now it's the size an eraser, with a few additional fingernail scratches around it.

That is all.  Oh wait, STOP PICKING!

T-Ball = Painful

Last night was Ares' first day of T-ball. Let me tell you, it was painful.  First, he didn't want to run with the team around the bases, until the last two times, then he realized it was fun.  Thank GOD his team was up to bat first, he loved that part.  Some things I've learned from watching 3 year olds play T-ball.
  • Kids don't know to run to first after they hit the ball
  • The kids don't know if they are right handed or left handed.  (Right now, 1/2 the team is left.)
  • All kids stand around the pitcher's mound waiting for the ball to get hit into the field and then race towards it in the hopes that they are the person to put the ball on the tee next.  What's first base?
  • Some kids (or maybe just mine) cried when the ball was  hit for the first time and they weren't the first to get it
  • Kids like to sit or lay in the grass when they're not batting
  • Kids don't know they  have to run when the ball is hit, so there's a coach ON every base to push the kid towards the next base and to call the name of the kid (that may or may not be) running to them
  • There may or may not be as many parents on the field as there are kids.  Ares is afraid of everything and mommy needs to be right there
  • Ares may or may  not have liked the large leaf he found better than the game
  • Hands down, snack time was the best part of the evening, in both the parents' and the kids' minds
He says he wants to go back next week, and 'I won't pout this time.' Good!!

Standing around the pitcher's mound, waiting for the ball to be hit.

Snack time!!!

Getting pushed to go to the next base.
He hit pretty well, but definitely hits better with a pitched ball.

The Philospher

Scene:  We're driving to Grandma's to pick up his baseball mitt.  We had a nice conversation about school, and what he did that day (ride tricycles that use pedals and work in 'stations') and then it was silent for about 2 minutes (A really long time for Ares.)

Ares: There are all different kinds.
Me:  Kinds of what?
Ares: Kinds of things.  More silence.

Tonight is Ares' first game for T-ball.  My biggest fear is that he throws a tantrum (silent or not) when he's not batting, because he wants to hit the ball.  I'm excited about him starting another sport, hopefully he likes it,  but at the same time, between being swamped at work, and not having a moment to breathe, I'm starting to feel quite overwhelmed.   OK, pictures of the swing set and t-ball to hopefully come soon.  It's tough because I cannot upload from my camera, directly to blogspot because blogspot sucks.

***Oh, and a special thanks from Ares to Grandma Jean and  Papa for the cool doggie card and money =)  He liked the messages you put in, and thought the dog tricks on the card were funny.
***Another secial thanks to Grandma Karen for the videos which were watched in full length nearly immediately after he opened them.  (The 'thanks' is about a week late, so he's actually seen them a few times now)
