Hall of mirrors

This blog is a mixture of our travel adventures and our new family adventures.
The title comes from a dumb blonde high school girl on a tour with us in Versailles who asked this question in every single room of the Palace.
The picture was taken while on our Honeymoon in China, on the Xian river.

Pinewood Derby fun!

Ares had his first pinewood derby this past weekend.   He had a good time, although was a big shy at first.   Only two boys from his den showed up, but he got first place of the two.  The other kid, Kyle had a cool football car.

He is really proud of his trophy, but we had the luau right after this, so the happiness was very short lived.   Ah well, a nice trophy to put on his shelf - next to his car.

(I still hate this program and it's lack of letting me put photos where I want them)

Ares designed the car on his own.   It averaged about 196.5MPH on the track.   The winners for the older boy were closer to 203MPH.   We learned a few things.
1-having only 3 wheels working isn't a bad thing
2-The lower the vehicle, the better, also, the thinner the vehicle, the better.  Really a Flat triangle shape might be the best bet.
3-We should probably shellac or gloss next time
and lastly
4-weight is good.
5-Boys love jello.  The jello jigglers I made were the first things to be gone.  Even faster than the Oreos.  At first I tried to cut out with shapes, but the squares went just as quickly.   Last time I made 6 boxes, they were a little thin (in a baking pan) but maybe 8 would be better.   Get them at Aldi  =)
