Hall of mirrors

This blog is a mixture of our travel adventures and our new family adventures.
The title comes from a dumb blonde high school girl on a tour with us in Versailles who asked this question in every single room of the Palace.
The picture was taken while on our Honeymoon in China, on the Xian river.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things

I knelt down so Ares could see how much the baby has grown (my stomach is getting very large) and he takes a boob in each hand and says "yeah, the baby is getting big, but these are getting saggy".  For the record, they aren't, they're awesome.

I asked him what songs he sang at school today and he says "Nothing".  I said "but your daily log here says that you did sing songs" and he says "uhm, yeah, we sang the 'Nothing' song.  *uhm... noooothing noth-nothing, this is the nothing song, noth noth nothing uhhhh more nooothhhing, nothing uhhhh. Nothing!*  That's the end mommy."

Spring Has Sprung

 - And it's about damned time.  I'm sure we're going to get a frost or two again before Summer, but in the past week, we've had more nice days than not, so we're getting there (glass=half full!).

Yesterday was awesome.  I left work at 2PM to take Ares to his 4 year old well visit.  The nurse (on the phone) prepped us for needing vaccinations, so I've been talking about it for two weeks now with Ares.  I knew he was ready yesterday, when (in the car) he mentions that this time he's going to point to the place where the shot was so the nurse doesn't put the band aid in the wrong place.  He was laughing hysterically. (His flu shot band aid was about 3" lower than where the shot actually went in.)  "Silly nurse" as Ares said".  We got to the appt., and the doctor said he didn't need any shots until next year, when he starts Kindergarten.  He was worried then.  "Can we still get some ice cream?!"  (Yes, I bribed him to be good and sit still when he gets his shot with ice cream - so sue me.)  After ice cream and a short Giant Eagle trip, we went home and enjoyed the 75* weather (in APRIL! in CLEVELAND!) Yikes!  We even ate a late dinner on the patio and slept with the windows open.  Homerun!

It was too warm to wear long sleeves, and we were
both too lazy to go inside to get a short sleeved shirt.

Favorite picture of the season! =)
Dinner two days ago.  He asked for Jalapenos, and then
asked for more, and eventually had one jalapenos for each bite.

This is the first time Ares was able to climb the rock wall
all by himself.  He must have done it 40 times afterwards.

Adam's Birthday Weekend

Adam turned 35 this weekend!  He's wicked old.  OK, that's mean, and totally not true, he acts far younger and aside from a *few* white hairs coming through, looks about 27.  I hate him.

We were in Cincinnati for the weekend where we gorged ourselves eating out at restaurants on Saturday, and then even worse with the home cooked meals on Sunday.  I got the bookshelf and step stool plus some desk lamps from Ikea.  We got to hang out with Doug and the girls, which was really  nice, shoot off some rockets, and just play outside.  The weather was beautiful, probably the second best weekend we've seen since October.  Ares played on the zip line, tire swing, in the gravel pile and everywhere else that was pretty dirty.  He had an awesome time.  I'll put more pics in a new post, because the photos are stuck on my camera, which I need to find.  These are from my phone.

Daddy and Ares after their Zip Line run.

Ares was working hard at Ikea in his "KING CROWN".  I thought this sequence of pictures was funny, like he was frustrated with his work and was ready to get going.  I know the feeling man, I know the feeling.   He had a good time running around the store looking for the aarows to follow.  For the bottom section of the store, we had him go  to the children's area to play.  He enjoyed it for the most part.  The ball pit was closed =(

I Should Have Known...

... I mean, I'm a mom to a 4 year old boy and a wife to a 14 35 year old husband.  One thing I did not think of (that some people at work did) is that this new ottoman would only barely prevent the pinball effect, but only because the trampoline fun is better.

I have video, but this program doesn't give me the option to upload videos anyway other than YouTube.  So just imagine him "boinging" onto the ottoman 35 times in a row.   45 times... etc.

Another Delivery

I feel with Ares' birthday, Adam's birthday, Easter, my Amazon habit and this future rocket launch that we get a package in the mail or on our door step every other day (for 4 weeks straight).

Tomorrow we get our ottoman delivered.  At first, I didn't think not having an ottoman was that bad of a thing, I mean, the couch is big enough (Adam and I can both lay head to head and not touch either end of the couch - by a LOT), and I have a chaise lounge that the missing ottoman wasn't terrible.

Insert 4 year old, who, coincidentally (or not) turned into a pinball when it comes to our new couch.  He runs and bounces off the cushions in a different direction.  It must be fun, it happens all the time - although, I'll be honest, I haven't tried it.  Sometimes my belly does that off of the counter or door frame or something though.

Speaking of my belly, Ares (and his preschool friends) have decided they love to come up to me, give me a hug (nothing unusual) and kiss my belly each time they see me.  It's cute for the kids I like (the ones we see all of the time and I write about on here), creepy for the kids that I don't like.

Ares has come to call the baby "Hero" or "Alex" I like "Hero" better.  Not because I don't like the name Alex, but because Hero is SO Ares.   He runs around the house wielding swords (paper towel cardboard tubes) and hero wrist bands the grandma Easter bunny got him.  Sometimes with, sometimes without a cape, you know, because Captain America,  Hulk, Ironman and Spiderman don't need capes to be super heroes.  I'll be honest, I'm really digging this super-hero phase.  It's fun, lots of fun.  I only wish I didn't put so much energy and money into a space themed bedroom last year, I'd totally spend the money on a super-hero themed room.  He already has red and blue walls, it would be such a easy (and fun!) change, but alas, my husband has reigned me in and told me I was crazy.

Happy Easter!!

It was a very Easter weekend.  Saturday morning started out with breakfast at Dunkin Donuts (complete with a coffee run for Ares' friends' parents) and an Easter Egg hunt in the city.
No fear.

Starting line, Matthew (with the big basket) Lukas (blue basket),
Ares (basket with feet)  and Colt (with the baketball basket)

Buds - they put the baskets on their heads on their own.  Goof-balls.
Oooh, a movie with Santa on it!  A book!  CANDY!!!

Daddy?!  Are there peanuts in here?

Couch Table

I first heard the phrase "couch table" a few years ago when my mom was looking for one. I thought it was the most ridiculous thing ever, and I likely ridiculed her for it.  (Sorry mom!)  Fast forward 3 or 4 years and insert Miller-family-parties and you'll see why I am apologizing.

I have mentioned my love for our new sectional many times over the past couple of weeks on this blog.  The movers actually put the couch about 12" away from both walls.  Enough for Ares and the dog to play behind it.  I casually mentioned that we could put a table back there and then have a place for cups when we have parties and Adam L-O-V-E -loved  the idea.  I wasn't sure I liked it, but we have the room for it, it's functional and it would make it so I don't need to bring out serving tables for all our parties for people to put their drinks on.  So a few designs and a few hundred dollars later (in addition to wood - nice wood, he needed some tools, or so he told me)  we have started this project.

Saturday was a nice day out, so we worked all day while Ares played outside.  Thank goodness grandma came over to help entertain him - and then take him to her house for dinner and a bath, we got a lot done.  It still needs supports and sanded and stained, but the hard part is done.  (I may or may  not have requested that Adam build in shelves to the sides for decoration on one side and functional storage on the other side.  He then decided to add a table to it so that we can get rid of another ugly end table, yay!!)

I told him that even though we didn't finish, and tomorrow was Easter, that we can keep the stuff as is in the garage, and I can handle parking outside for a couple of weeks.  Of course, I had NO FREAKING IDEA that it would snow. In April.  Surprise!!

Thoughts of a Newly Turned 4 Year Old

The house is quiet.  Dishes are being washed, food is being put away, Ares is quietly sitting at the kitchen table.

Ares:  Did you know that Loki didn't know that the Abomination is a bad guy?  *wide eyed* Like, he had NOOOO IDEA!

Apparently, the inner thoughts of a newly turned four year old revolve around The Avengers.
